MAKE - UP BAG CAKE
MATERIALS.
- 18cm ( 7in ) round cake
- 25cm ( 10in ) round cake board
- 1.25kg ( 2½lb ) sugarpaste / rolled fondant
- pink & mauve food coloring pastes
- icing/confectioners' sugar in a sugar shaker
- 315g ( 10oz / 1 / 4 cup) buttercream
- dark blue, dark purple, gold, dark pink, silver, pink, mauve & white edible sparkle powders/petal dust/blossom tints
- sugar glue
EQUIPMENT

- sharp knife
- small & large flower cutters
- 4.5cm ( 14in ) circle cutter

MAKE - UP BAG CAKE
METHOD:
Color 315g ( 10oz ) of sugarpaste pale pink. Roll out and cover the cake board Trim excess from around the edge, then put aside to dry Trim the crust from the cake and slice the top flat. Cut a 3.5cm ( 1 ½ in ) wedge from one edge of the cake to form the base of the make - up bag Spread a layer of buttercream over the surface. Roll out 220g ( 7oz ) of white sugarpaste. Place the back of the cake down on the sugarpaste and out around Cover the front in the same way Colour 100g ( 3 ½ oz ) of sugarpaste mauve. Thinly roll out 30g ( 1 oz ) and cut a strip to cover the opening around the top of the cake Roll out 200g ( 6 oz ) of white sugarpaste and cut two strips to cover the top of the cake,
Roll out 200 g(6 ½ oz
)of white sugar paste and cut two strips to cover the top of the cake leaving
the mauve inner strip showing. For the zip. Press the tip of a knife along
each side, then mark a line for the zip edge. Roll the white trimmings into
two long thin sausages and use to hide the joins, then position the cake on
the cake board Thinly roll out 30g ( 1 oz ) of white sugarpaste and cut ten
flowers with the large flower cutter, sticking in place with sugar glue.
Using pink sugarpaste trimmings, model little flattened balls and use them to fill
each flower center. Make another flower for the zip trim, using the small
flower cutter.
To make the make-up, color 45g ( 1 ½ oz ) of sugarpaste dark pink and 22g ( ¾ oz ) pale purple. For the mirror, thinly roll out dark pink and cut out a heart, using the
template, and a circle. Stick together with sugar glue, then stick on the
board With the remaining dark pink, roll a sausage for the base of the make-up tube and a tiny sausage for the applicator handle. Shape the eye shadow tub
by pressing down into a ball of sugarpaste and smoothing around to create a dip
With the pale purple, shape another tub, the top of the lipstick, a small
sausage for the applicator, and the brush bristles, marking with a knife.
With mauve, make
another eye shadow tub, the lipstick tube pieces, and lid, the brush handle a
ball-shaped nail varnish bottle, and a pencil tip. With white make two more eye
shadow tubs, the lid for the nail varnish tapering to a point, the sausage-shaped make-up tube lid and pencil, and all the applicator tips. Stick
together with sugar glue. Rub patches of pink and mauve sparkle powder over
the cake, then brush with white sparkle powder Fill the eye shadow tubs
with sparkle powders and dip the applicator at either end To finish brush blue
sparkle over the nail varnish bottle and silver over the mirror, lids and
pencil.
