The microwave oven is ideal for reheating all types of foods. Most leftovers will reach serving temperature in a matter of minutes and will taste freshly cooked. Follow the guidelines below for reheating. Always use plates and dishes suitable for the microwave.
If you are in doubt, check the dish according to the guidelines in MicrowaveCooking Containers The times of reheating are according to food at refrigerator temperature. Remember foods with a high fat or sugar content will heat exceptionally quickly, so do not leave the microwave unattended.
FOIL CONTAINERS
Food in foil containers
should be transferred to microwave containers of a similar size. Cover with
cling film and Reheat.
MICROWAVE CONTAINERS
Food in microwave
containers should be removed from its outer carton, and the plastic cover should be
pierced twice. and then Reheat.
ROLLS
Wrap individual rolls in
a piece of kitchen paper. Heat on HIGH for 5-10 seconds. To reheat 4-6 rolls,
place them on a piece of kitchen paper on the turntable or put them in a bread
basket lined with a napkin, cover with a piece of kitchen paper, and heat on
HIGH for 30 seconds. Test baked goods before adding extra time, when overheated
they become tough and hard.
SOUPS
Single servings can be
heated in the serving dish, allow 3 minutes on HIGH stir during heating and at
the end.
CHRISTMAS PUDDINGS
Great care should be taken when reheating Christmas puddings. Both bought and homemade ones should be removed from their wrappers, turn onto a dish, and cover with cling film. Reheat on HIGH for 30 seconds for an individual one, 1½ minutes for a 350g ( 12 oz . ) size, and 2-3 minutes for a 900g ( 2 lb. ) size.
DO NOT LEAVE IT
UNATTENDED. DO NOT ADD ALCOHOL. Over-cooking will dehydrate the pudding and can
cause it to ignite! Bought Christmas puddings will only need
reheating.
DRINKS
The microwave is ideal
for making drinks. For individual drinks make them in a cup or mug. Heat milky
drinks on MEDIUM for 2-2½ mins per cup. For more than one drink heat liquid in
a large jug. Allow 5-6 minutes per 600ml (1 pt.) on MEDIUM for milk. To BOIL
water or water and milk allow 6-8 minutes on HIGH. Always stir liquids during
heating, and stir in cocoa, coffee, or your favorite flavor at the end. Reheat
a made-up drink for 30 seconds on HIGH.
CANNED FOODS
Empty the contents of
the can into a bowl or casserole dish. The food spread out in a shallow dish
will reheat more quickly than that heated in a narrow deep dish. Cover the dish
with a lid or with cling film Stir once during heating. At the end of cooking
stand for 3 minutes. To calculate approximate heating times allow 5 minutes per
450g (1 lb. ) on HIGH. Or use Auto reheat for casseroles or Auto sensor
