TOY GARAGE CAKE
Be prepared for a traffic jam at the party table when you serve this cakeMATERIALS.
- 20cm ( 8in ) square cake,
- 30cm ( 12in ) square cake board
- .2kg ( 4lb ) sugarpaste / rolled fondant
- black, red, green, blue, yellow & cream food coloring pastes
- icing/confectioners' sugar in a sugar shaker
- 410g ( 13oz / 13 cups ) buttercream
- sugar glue
EQUIPMENT
- large rolling pin
- sharp knife cake smoother
- miniature circle cutter
TOY GARAGE CAKE METHOD:
Color 750g ( 1½lb ) of sugar paste grey using a touch of black food coloring paste. Roll out 440g ( 14oz ) and cover the cake board, trimming excess from around the edge. then put aside to dry. Trim the crust from the cake and slice the top flat. Cut in half and put one half on top of the other. Trim one end to curve around, then sandwich the layers together with buttercream. Spread a layer of buttercream over the surface of the cake
Roll out 75g ( 2 ½ oz ) of white sugar paste and cut a piece to fit the square end then press into position. Roll out 375g(12oz) of white and cut an oblong the around the cake sides. Roll up, position against the cake, then unroll around the cake.
Color the remaining sugar paste green. To make the cars and trucks, model a ball of sugar paste and press gently on the top to flatten slightly. With the flat of a knife, press into the sugar paste to mark the front window, then press down to flatten the bonnet. Shap the back of the car in the same way. Cut straight edges all around each car. Make the truck but keep the back straight. Shape tires from black sugar paste, indenting each with your finger
